MSME / Udyam Registration

MSME registration refers to the process of registering a business as a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) under the MSME Act, 2006 in India. Here’s an overview of MSME registration:

  1. Eligibility: Any business entity involved in manufacturing or providing services can register under the MSME Act. The classification of micro, small, or medium enterprise is based on investment in plant and machinery (for manufacturing units) or equipment (for service enterprises) and turnover.
  2. Benefits: MSME registration offers various benefits, including priority sector lending from banks, subsidies on patent registration and industrial promotion, exemption under direct tax laws, and preference in government tenders.
  3. Online Registration: The MSME registration process can be completed online through the Udyam Registration portal (formerly known as Udyog Aadhaar). Applicants need to provide basic information about their business, including Aadhaar number, PAN, name of the enterprise, address, type of organization, and bank account details.
  4. Documents Required: The documents required for MSME registration include Aadhaar card, PAN card, business address proof, details of plant and machinery or equipment, and bank account details.
  5. Udyam Registration Certificate: Upon successful registration, an Udyam Registration Certificate with a unique Udyam Registration Number (URN) is issued. This certificate serves as proof of MSME registration and is valid for the lifetime of the business entity.
  6. Update and Modification: MSMEs can update or modify their registration details, including investment in plant and machinery/equipment and turnover, through the Udyam Registration portal.
  7. No Fee: There is no fee for MSME registration on the Udyam Registration portal. However, businesses should be cautious of fraudulent agencies or websites charging fees for registration assistance.
